Obituary of Anna Ruth Taylor

Anna Ruth Taylor passed away on June 5, 2011 in Danville, California where she had resided the past 6 years. She was 95 years young. Born October 4, 1915 in Lockport, she is the daughter of George and Caroline Specht Morrill, and wife of the late Dr. John S. Doherty, and Fred. D. Taylor. Anna Ruth graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1937, and enjoyed a rewarding career as an elementary school teacher. In the early years she taught in a rural one room schoolhouse, the Lockport public school system, and the Lockport Home Teaching Program provided for students unable to attend regular classes. Following some time off to raise her family, she returned to teaching at Newfane Central School where she taught 6th grade from 1959-1977. She never lost her love of learning, and cherished the many return visits from students who expressed their gratitude for her influence in shaping their lives. Anna Ruth was a member the Lockport Town and Country Club where she played bridge and met the girls for dinner every Friday night, the Olcott Beach Yacht Club, the Jolly Eight Bridge Club for over 70 years, and St. John the Baptist R.C. Church. Her motto in the high-school yearbook was to make new friends and keep the old. She lived that to its fullest and brought joy to so many who knew her. She is survived by her three children, John Michael (Linda) Doherty of Chester, MD, Joanne (Robert) Braunscheidel of Lockport, and Elana (Rob) Holls of Danville, CA, 5 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
