Obituary of Howard H. Dobbins, Jr.

Howard H. (Bud) Dobbins Jr. passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on May 13, 2020. He was born on January 22, 1930 in Lockport, New York, son of Howard H. and Almeda Dobbins. He graduated from Lockport High School and Colgate University. Bud served honorably in the Korean War and upon his return, joined his father at HH Dobbins and Son farm and cold storage. On August 16, 1958, he married the love of his life, Rita Ann Durenberger of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, who survives him…. reluctantly. In addition to running his business, he served proudly on the Board of Holiday Valley resort for 42 years; the board of SPUR, an economic development board for the Niagara region; as well as Lockport Lions Club. Bud’s moral compass and integrity were manifested in the way he lived his life. To say he was an enthusiastic skier is an understatement – traversing the slopes at his beloved Holiday Valley into his 90th year. He was a gifted all-around athlete, tennis player, fisherman, gardener, music aficionado, poet, and artist. It would be difficult to find a more devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was as tenacious as he was kind, humble and devoted but also a fierce competitor. His grandchildren adored and idolized him. He left this world with many friends and admirers. He referred to himself as Mr. Lucky, but actually, it was we who were the lucky ones. Bud was a gentleman and a gentle man. In addition to Rita, he is survived by his sister, Beth Ramage; son, Thomas Bowen Dobbins (wife Rebecca, son Joseph) and son, Howard H. (Ward) Dobbins III (wife Sheila, son Matthew, daughter Mary) and many nieces and nephews. A private service will be held for the family.
