Obituary of Loretta Szur Layer

Loretta Szur Layer of Pendleton, NY went to her eternal home on Friday, January 17, 2020. Born on January 11, 1935 in Pendleton, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Stipkovits) Szur. Loretta was a lifelong active member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Lockport where she and her husband, Paul F. Layer were married May 3, 1958. Loretta was a graduate of NCCC, Campbell Kids 4-H Leader, Starpoint Room Mother, Ladies Auxiliary of Navy Marine Club member, and a lifetime member of the Historical Society of Pendleton. She also served as Pendleton Assistant Tax Collector. She enjoyed golf, quilting, and cooking and baking traditional Hungarian foods. Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Paul F. Layer. She is the mother of Paul (Corrie) Layer, Jr., Michelle (Greg) Rahal, late Jeffrey Layer, Loretta (Karl) Frankovitch and Peter (Kirsten) Layer; grandmother of 11, great grandmother of 2, and aunt of many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, Jan. 23rd from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at LANGE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 186 East Ave., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 24th at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Church, 5442 Tonawanda Creek Rd. N., North Tonawanda, NY. Burial in Bear Ridge Cemetery.
