Obituary of Alice M. Crafts
Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alice M. (Braun) Crafts entered into rest on Tuesday September 27, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She immigrated to the U.S. from Germany where she received her Masters Degree in Culinary Arts. In Germany, she was the head chef of a 5 star restaurant. Throughout her career as a Master Chef, she was also a teacher and mentor to many that aspired to be like her. She was the first chef at Lockport Sheraton and had many innovative ideas. In the early 70s she developed the concept of the salad bar, which was the first in the area. Her cuisine was loved by patrons at The Fieldstone Inn, The Elks Club, The Shamus and Garlocks. Local restaurants are still using her recipes to this day. Shortly after her retirement from Garlocks, she had a debilitating stroke. After 22 years, she remained strong, active and inspiring to all those she touched, in spite of her limitations. No matter what challenges were presented to her, Alice would always turn lemons into lemonade. She loved with all of her heart and will be loved forever. Loving mother of Ursula (Gregory) Petraetis and Micheleen Newell, cherished grandmother of Hans Hyde and Alexandra Newell, adoring great grandmother of Lillian Reed, dear sister to Christian, Peter, Ziegred, Manfred, Heidie, Sabina, Barbel, Susie and Renate and beloved friend of Marc Terrance. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday October 1, 2011 at 12:00 PM from St. Brendon On The Lake, 3455Ewings Road, Newfane, NY. Arrangements by Lange Funeral Home, Inc. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.langefuneralhomeinc.com.
