Obituary of Richard A. Boyd

Richard A. Boyd Boyd, Richard A. of Newfane, NY, passed away on Sunday February 13, 2011 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Born on January 27, 1919 in Wellsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Charles and Inez Lord Boyd. He and his late wife, Lucy A. Blackman Boyd were married in 1940 and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 until 1946. Mr. Boyd lived in Marilla, then Rochester, and in 1977 moved to Newfane where he was in the construction business before becoming a Building Trades Teacher at Orleans/Niagara BOCES in Medina. He retired in 1995 after 16 years. Mr. Boyd was instrumental in forming the Iroquois Central School District in Elma, NY, an exempt member, past Chief and Assistant Chief of Marilla Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Newfane American Legion Post #873 and the Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed camping at his cabin in Scio, NY, woodworking and was a fine cabinet maker. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Husband of the late Lucy A. Boyd, he is survived by his children, Richard A. (Wilma) Boyd, Jr. of OK and Patricia A. (Dennis) Schultz of Newfane, three grandchildren, Kimberley (James) Miller of SC, Julie A. (John) Harpst and Brian D. Schultz both of Newfane, three great grandchildren, Alyssa and Ethan Harpst and Lucas Miller, one brother, Francis (Helen) Boyd and Marilyn Jeanne (William) Huntington and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert and three sisters, Norma Buffum, Grace Demarest and Charlotte Bradley. Friends may call on Tuesday 7-9 PM and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Lange Funeral Home, Inc., 186 East Ave., Lockport, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM from Newfane United Methodist Church, 2699 Main St., Newfane, NY. Interment in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Newfane American Legion Post #873 or Newfane United Methodist Church. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.langefuneralhomeinc.com.
