Obituary of Edward I. Skretny

Edward I. Skretny, 98, passed away on November 10, 2010 in Lockport, NY. Born July 31, 1912 in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of and Ignatius and Joanna Boniak Skretny. On September 13, 1941, he married the former Angeline Braniecki with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Mr. Skretny retired from the Lehigh Valley Railroad in 1974, where he worked as a patrolman. Prior to that, he played minor league baseball until he injured his finger. In 1974 he and Angeline moved to Lockport and became members of St. Josephs R.C. Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and an active worker at the church until 2009. In April, 2007 he received the prestigious Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker from Bishop of Buffalo, Most Rev. Edward U. Kmiec, D.D. at a concelebrated Mass in St. Joseph Cathedral, Buffalo. Mr. Skretny is preceded in death by his wife Angeline, his brother Leonard and sister Alfreda Panek. Surviving are his son, Paul (Margaret) Skretny of Waco, Texas; two grandchildren Kim S. Mason (Mason) of TX and Lynn S. Winfield (David) of LA; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Matthew Winfield; a brother William Skretny and several nieces and nephews. Also, Barbara Scirto Sullivan who was like family to him, and many other dear friends. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at the Lange Funeral Home, Inc., 186 East Avenue, Lockport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10:00 AM from St. Josephs R.C. Church, 391 Market Street, Lockport, NY. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
